Training Resources for Multisport Athletes

by Barbara Day

A must have resource is a book by Joe Friel entitled Your First Triathlon. This book is an easy read and discusses the How To's in the swim, on the bike and during the run. It contains a 12 week detailed training plan. The book also details a strength building program with exercises which can be done either using gym equipment or techniques that can be done using resistance bands or your own body weight in your home environment. In addition, the Your First Triathlon discusses High-Tech Gear such as heart rate monitors, power meters, and GPS devices.

The Total Immersion techniques has been hailed as the most effective way to become an efficient swimmer. Terry Laughlin's Total Immersion techniques can be learned by attending hands on workshops, through his books, his training DVDs or with his drill cards (www.totalimmersion.net).

The most neglected part of triathlon training is utilizing effective nutrition strategies. While training is important developing an effective nutrition program is equally important. There are a number of excellent resources featured below.
